DELTA JUNCTION TRAILS ASSOCIATION Inc

http://www.deltajunctiontrails.com/

“Delta Junction Trails Association is just getting started with our first trail project.  We have hired Geoff Orth for Project Management of the Liewer Community Trail!  He has a wealth of background on trails that he is always willing to share with us.  He has been so easy to work with; very clear, thorough, and on time. Geoff has worked in the field and knows how things go; mapping, layout and design, volunteer training and timesheet management, regulations, permitting, easements, grants, timelines, contractors, resources, contacts and much more.  Beyond all of that, he is willing to find the right answer or solution.  To those of us new in the field, Geoff has an excellent way of explaining this network of valuable information, which makes him a very good teacher as well. He has helped make our first project successful and very fun!  It has been a pleasure to work with Geoff.”  - Mindy Eggleston, DJTA Chair

The Liewer Community Trail is a sustainable non-motorized trail with 1.2 miles of stacked loops on approximately 10 acres of forested land.  It is designed for classic X-C country skiing yet attracts walkers/runners and birders in the non-snow months.  Trail easements were donated from Ronald Liewer, Delta Junction and the Delta/Greely School District.

The Bluff Cabin Trail is a multi-use, multi-season trail that has been heavily damaged by larger vehicles.  During Phase I, repair and restoration will occur on the existing alignment on the first 1.34 miles of trail. Repairing trail damage will help keep riders on the trail and reduce damage to adjacent private property.  Mitigation of the trail is a multi-phase process.  Performing a trail assessment & prescription on the Bluff Cabin Lakes and Bluff Cabin (slough) sections of the trail will provide necessary information for Phase II.

"Geoff's work with me expanding trails on my family's homestead has demonstrated his depth of knowledge, excellent communication and writing skills, attention to deadlines and details, diligence and ability to get things done.  Geoff is a valuable resource who took us from an idea through to formation of a non-profit, grant application, to successful grant approval."  - Chena K. Newman (Koponen Homestead LLC)

Construction of a multi-use, multi-season, non-motorized trail, approximately 1.6 miles in length on the Koponen Homestead in Fairbanks, Alaska.  Trail will be designed for Nordic X-C skiing (USFS Class 3), but will be suitable for mountain biking, pedestrians, snowshoeing, etc.  The trail will be naturally surfaced and will adhere to modern sustainability requirements for alignment, grade, integrated water control, and durable tread.

HAPPY VALLEY SINGLETRACK

(Also known as the Ester Dome singletrack)

"Geoff's understanding of both the organizational and practical aspects of trail projects helps his clients move through each stage of the process of trail creation and improvement more effectively, resulting in very successful and well-loved trails."  - Jon Underwood, Happy Trails Inc.

Between 2009 and 2011, Alaska Trails facilitated the construction of 11 miles of multi-use, multi-season, non-motorized singletrack trail in the Happy Valley drainage of Ester Dome, in Fairbanks, Alaska.  The trail, while primarily designed for use by mountain bikers, is used by hikers, snowshoers, etc.  The trail is naturally surfaced, avoids low boggy areas, and adheres to modern sustainability requirements for alignment, grade, integrated water control, and durable tread.  I was the lead/project manager, coordinating grant funding, financing, and volunteers, working closely with the project's concept (Joel Buth/Goldstream Sports) and builder (Jon Underwood/Happy Trails Inc).

"I¹ve known Geoff since 2005 and found him to be and do what he says.  He has a strong background in sustainable trail design, layout, construction, & management as well as grant writing, project management, and working cooperatively with his partners.  He also had a strong role in developing a number of the sustainable trail course curriculum while on the board.  I wouldn¹t hesitate to have him work on my trail project."  - Jack Mosby, founder and former President and VP of Alaska Trails

The Eva Creek trail preservation project is an historic trail used as access to mining claims between Fairbanks and Ester. This trail crosses private land where landowners with a legacy vision see the benefits of the trail system and are looking to the preserve the trail for future generations. Partners include local residents and landowners, the Ester Community Association, and user volunteer groups.
